Mixed reactions were all over the political arena yesterday due to the news of VP Osinbanjo’s 35 aide’s sack.
Yesterday, it became public that up to 35 aides of Vice President Osinbanjo SAN lost their badges to security men. There are so many mixed views regarding this development. Some are even afraid that this situation may result in a national crisis that should be prevented at all costs.
The information reaching our table is that those included in the sack are; the daughter immediate former Oyo State Governor, Jibola Ajayi. Also included in the sack is Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s grandson Babajide.
Is this Situation a Conspiracy?
The presidency claims that there is nothing like a conspiracy going on in this matter. This claim notwithstanding, the polity is awash with mutterings of a mysterious fissure going on between VP Osinbanjo and President Muhammadu Buhari.
But then, the media aide to the Vice President Laolu Akande made it known to his Twitter handle that list of the sacked aides is not genuine. He also said that the list should be overlooked and never brought out any other list.
This situation brought to light the fact that the President recently asked his Vice to get approvals for all the agencies he is supervising. The president then transferred the National Social Investment Program out of the Vice President’s office to a newly convened ministry.
Furthermore, the Economic Management Team, which is the constitutional right of the Vice President to Chair, is currently under the supervision of the President. The president is acting under the advice of the present set up Economic Advisory Council.
We also received the information that President Buhari travelled last week to the United Kingdom for personal purposes, which will last ten days. He did not send a letter through the National Assembly as the official hand over to the VP, which is due process.
But then, everyone is waiting for the President’s return within 21 days. If not, the 2010 Necessity Law Doctrine will become active. The Vice President will have the constitutional right to become acting President. It happened before during the tenure of late President Yar’Adua and VP Goodluck Jonathan. But then, the ruling party All Progressives Congress and the presidency says that Buhari can rule Nigeria from anywhere in the world.
