Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes the First Footballer to Score Against 40 Different Countries

Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first ​European footballer in the world to have scored 90 international goals.

The 34-year-old modern day footballing legend scored four goals in Portugal’s European Championship qualifier against Lithuania on Tuesday night, taking his tally to 90 in a grand total of 160 games in order to claim the record.

Over the years, Ronaldo has banged in eight hat-tricks for his national team including yesterday’s trio of goals against Lithuania.

He scored the first goal of the game in the seventh minute with a typical finish from the penalty spot and then went on to score three more goals in the space of just 15 minutes in order to help Portugal to make the scoreline read 4-1.

With this performance, Ronaldo became the all-time ​leading goalscorer in European qualifiers and now has 25 goals, overtaking Robbie Keane who had 23 to his name.

Ronaldo, also holds other multiple records as far as his international football career is concerned including becoming the first player to score in 10 consecutive international tournaments.

o’s brace in the Group B tie meant that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has  now gone on and scored against 40 different nations and he is the only footballer ever to have achieved that feat.
