Members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect on Thursday slaughtered three passengers and abducted seven others along Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.
A security source who chose not to be named said the attack happened between Jakana -Auno at about 11:15 a.m
The three passengers were killed and their bodies left by the roadside around Auno village.
Seven passengers were forcefully take away by the militants from the same spot where they killed three others.
An unnamed source from the National Union of Road Transport Workers at the state government-owned park confirmed the attack, the source also said that drivers plying the attack route have parked their buses for fear of being attacked by the militants.
Maiduguri-Damaturu highway is seen as the only safe land route into Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state which is the birthplace of Boko Haram.
But the highway has become notorious recently for the kidnapping of civilians and military men.
